Hi. You probably got here because you quit your job (or got a 1099 instead of a W-2) and now you have to figure out taxes by yourself like some kind of feral accountant. Same.

UghTaxes is a collection of free calculators for freelancers, contractors, and anyone else who has ever stared at a Schedule SE and whispered "what is this."

Why does this exist

Because most financial tools on the internet assume you have an employer. You know, someone who handles your taxes, gives you health insurance, and matches your 401(k) like a functioning member of society. If you're self-employed, those calculators give you the wrong answer and then you owe the IRS money. Fun.

So we built calculators that are actually designed for people who work for themselves. Every tool comes with a plain-English explanation of what the math is doing and why, because "just trust us" isn't great advice when it's your money.

What we don't do

• We don't require you to sign up for anything.
• We don't sell your data. We literally don't even collect it.
• We don't give financial advice. We give you a calculator and explain how the math works. What you do with that is between you and your accountant (you should probably get one of those).
